My mother used to knit ALL the time and started to teach me when I was around 5 yrs old, one Bonfire Night. By the time I was in my early teens I was knitting my own jumpers etc as well as making dresses and skirts on our old (and very rickety but good) Singer sewing machine. I used to knit Christmas presents for family too. Looking back I sometimes wonder if they used to roll their eyes and wondered what creation they had to wear this time. Then in my 30s I stopped. I guess it was actually cheaper to buy ready made items. But I recently retired and have the bug again. I'm a bit rusty but am enjoying the challenge with arthritic fingers and am slowly improving (I think).
