I was taught to crochet when I was a child by a neighbour who came from the Shetland Isles. I would love to visit the islands one day. Around ten years ago, I found my hooks again and was inspired by Jane Crowfoot's crochet courses and CALs. I am amazed by her designs! I also love the work of Little Doolally, Just Pootling, Kat Goldin, Nicky Trench and designers with similar contemporary ideas which bring crochet right up to date.My preferred yarn for crochet projects is cotton, but I love any soft, quality yarn.
At the end of 2016, we relocated to Essex to be closer to our four grown up sons who all live and work in London. Now I have more time to crochet, I have set up a small enterprise to sell my crocheted items. Having been a full time primary school teacher I love teaching and hope to run some 1-2-1 and group crochet lessons locally. I have begun setting up a website (www.essexcountrycrochet.co.uk) and blog to record my adventures as an empty nester in the Essex countryside.
