My mother taught me to knit when I was eight. I remember we bought little knitting needles and green yarn from a toy shop when we had a very wet summer holiday in North Berwick. I started off knitting dolls' clothes and then progressed to jumpers for humans. I knitted a lot during my teens and twenties but neglected knitting for a bit as work and other things made demands on my time. When friends of mine started having children, I knitted two quite demanding projects - a fair isle hoodie and an intarsia cardigan for two children whose mothers, both non knitters, had been asked by me to choose a pattern. Since then I've made a range of knitted garments for myself and friends and also knitted toys, both for children and to raise money for animal charities. I find knitting very relaxing but a resolution for 2018 is to limit the number of works in progress that I have on the go at any given time.
