I'm a knitter from the Aran Islands, combining traditional elements of Aran knitting (e.g. cables, lattice work) with more modern techniques, such as seamless knitting, to create my own original designs.
I first learnt to knit when I was about 6, and we moved on to Aran knitting pretty quickly - I remember making my first Aran jumper aged 10! I kept knitting over the years, as a hobby, and also started knitting some items for my cousin to sell on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. I used to create my own designs all the time, but not write them down. I decided to get at least one done, which was a huge learning curve! I found the more I wrote down, the easier the process became, and it has been wonderful to get reviews from people who have knitted my designs as gifts - my hats on peoples' heads on the other side of the world - : 0 !!
