Karen P

map-pin Bishop’s Stortford, United Kingdom

I'm proud to be continuing the knitting tradition among the women in my family. Both my grandmothers were knitters. I often wonder what they would make of the yarns and designs that are around today.
I started knitting when I was about 9 or 10, a tatty blue square for a blanket the Brownies were making, and I progressed onto jumpers and cardigans in my teens. My mum taught me most of what I know and I love that some of the things I learned from her, she learned from her mum, and those skills go back probably many generations. Even better, I am passing on those same skills to my daughter, who has become an avid crocheter.
My speciality was jumpers for teddy bears - must have designed and made over 40 of those for various bears and their owners, all with the bear's name on the back and a pic on the front relevant to the owner. Now I make all kinds of things - the sillier the better - for the creativity and the respite it gives from all the madness in the world.
