I'm a keen knitter/designer and I've been knitting and crocheting for four decades. I tend to start from what's needed and what I have in my stash. I buy wool when I see it or when it's a good price. I particularly love Drops wool as the quality is fab it's not too expensive and they do alpaca which is a particular fave. Top quality mercerised cotton gets me going too.
I am particularly fond of fair-isle patterns which I make up as I go along.
