I got several colours of this sock wool in a very good Loveknitting offer, but decided I didn't need this many thick socks so I looked for a sweater pattern for a sportsweight yarn, and found the Seashore one.
I'm wearing this sweater as an everyday one, it works well for me, and I'm hoping the sock yarn will make it tough enough for everyday life!
Although I said it used 4 balls (2 of each colour), there's actually about 80 grams of each colour left over.
Notes: The pattern suggested 3.25 and 3.75 needles, but I used 3.5 and 4.00 to get the correct gauge.
Although I used 4 balls (2 of each colour), I still have the equivalent of 1 ball leftover - so, matching socks or a cowl may be possible!
thanks! I wasn't sure how the patterning in the sock yarn would work out over the much bigger girth of a sweater, but I'm happy with the result - in fact Loveknitting had a really good offer on the yarn again so I will be making another one for next winter!
@Carolyn O: great idea! How did you work with the two different colours of yarn? It looks great in the photo and I can’t work out where the differences are
@Gillian Sayers: that's interesting that you can see the two yarn colours! - in the end, I wondered if it was a bit too subtle, I think it's because each yarn colour has length of a similar soft grey and that sometimes makes the changeover a bit ambiguous. So it doesn't always look clear cut, but I stuck to the Seashore sweater pattern's instructions for the stripes ie alternating 4 rows of the MC with 17 rows of the CC
