I volunteer for a charity called Knitted Knockers UK. We knit and crochet lightweight, cotton breast prostheses for ladies we (usually) do not know, who have had breast cancer and had a mastectomy or lumpectomy. They are made to order and provided completely free of charge. I've been a volunteer for 2 and a half years and it is one of the best things I've ever done. Our motto is "made with love and filled with hope" & each and every knocker we make really IS made with love and filled with hope. If I've had a tough day at work or home, doing some "knockering" in the evening is guaranteed to make me feel better. There is a real joy in making something like this, that you know makes such a difference to the recipient. When you get feedback from the lady you've made a knocker for the warm and fuzzy glow lasts for hours. We spend many a moment with "leaky eyes" when a lady tells us what a difference it has made in her life - we even make an aqua version for swimming!
