I received some partial skeins of 100% pure wool so decided this would be the perfect time to explore felting. The hat is knit in the round and is a typical beanie shape with a few modifications. I cast on 88 stitches and knit until the hat was about 7" tall. I then started the decreases. I knew that looking for the shape I wanted was more important than the actual decrease sequence so I decreased to get the angle I wanted. I used worsted weight yarn and size 10.5 (US) needles. Then I tossed the finished product in a pillowcase and put it in hot water in my washing machine. I checked after a few minutes of agitation to make sure it was felting as I expected. Felting is a hit and miss project, so remember to check often. Once the felting was complete I placed the hat over a foam mannequin head and made sure I shaped it as I wanted. Then I let it dry for a couple of days. The embroidery was added free hand with rayon floss and then embellished with beads and charms.
