    About

I find knitting very relaxing - like repetitive movement meditation. I like the fact that it easy to take a project with me because I live on an island so I spend time on ferries (and waiting for them) or on our own boat. I like to knit something that’s going to be used and is fun to make. I always learn something new with every project. My son really liked this vintage design and I laugh because I made my husband and I similar sweaters many years ago. I guess we’re vintage too.

The only challenging steps are carrying colours, keeping track of the pattern and putting in the zipper. I photocopy the pattern, making it larger, and draw a line through the row when I’m done. See my note on accessories regarding zippers.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 8.00mm (US 11) 60cm
    • Circular 6.50mm (US 10.5) 60cm

    Accessories

    • Zippers
    • Tapestry Needle
Other : Zippers are tricky. I have found a good method of attaching stitches to the zipper to make it a knittable objectand then knit it to the sides. Google it for a you tube video. Most helpful

Love it. It makes me feel peaceful. The natural looking colors are perfect. I looked up Cowichan on Wikipedia, but this did not reveal any possible symbolism regarding the eagle (condor? phoenix?)

This is a pretty typical design of a Thunderbird from the Haida First Nations although I have to say mine looks a bit like Gonzo from the Muppets lol. The Cowichan area tribes (on Vancouver Island) were great knitters.

I'm an island person. Grew up on Cape Breton; lived on Vashon. Either of those ring a bell? I think islanders are nicely weird. This does look "vintage" but I love it; guess because I'm vintage as well.

Hi Marie. I live on the other side of the country from you. I’m on Salt Spring, the largest Guld Island off of Vancouver Island. Small world eh? ;-)
