    About

I love the look of this large shawl. The pattern is a little bit difficult to follow at first - I will make a couple of comments that make it easier. For the even numbered (wrong side) rows, purl any yarn overs from the row before. The pattern for the even numbered rows is basically purl 5 knit 1, with 1, 3 or 5 purl stitches at either end, but always 5 in between for the rest of the row. I found this useful tip on a blog, and it certainly makes it easier to be sure that you haven’t made a mistake in the previous odd numbered row. Finally, where there is the option in the pattern to do extra yarn overs at the beginning or end of rows, definitely do them, because the edge will be tight without them. That said, I’m very happy wth the result. The only problem is that it’s nearly summer, so I’m not sure when I’ll be to wear it!

It looks wonderful and thanks so much for posting that advice—truly appreciated! I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find knitting to be such a joy, yet deciphering patterns to be such off-putting work. Almost as if deliberately cryptic! I guess I’m more visual and most patterns are written out. Thanks again!
