    About

Ten years ago as a very poor student, I realised that you could pick up wool remnants in charity shops which were great for knitting little gifts. At that point, I was quite new to knitting and hadn't undertaken anything too ambitious, but that all changed when I decided to knit my friend a scarf using all the colours of the rainbow. The finished thing was over two metres long, made up of mismatched yarns and messy tension, but it was made with love, and I was recently told that it is still worn proudly... So many years later, when I found out she was pregnant, I wanted to give her baby a good "start" in life, and remind him/her of just how bright and colourful Mummy was... And one night, it came to me... A baby grow to match the scarf. I used the Bergere de France pattern as a base, but added length in the legs (the scans show baby is leggy) and used rainbow stripes, wooden bear buttons and a bell on the hood. The second photo shows the original scarf.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Single Point 4.00mm (US 6) 25cm

    Accessories

    • Buttons
Other : Little brass bells on the hood

    Measurements

    Sizes: 3 Months

Notes: I added some length in the legs. The knit was for 0-1 months. I know from experience that French knits are quite small as children are smaller in general. On average, I go for the next size up when using Bergere de France patterns

Love this... over how many rows did you work the zigzag?

Err... I can’t remember. As it was a one-off I didn’t take notes, but it looks like seven rows. Sorry I can’t be more specific, but thanks!

I just love this to bits; you have adapted the pattern so beautifully and so colourfully. Great advice too for other knitters!
