My granddaughter was a "Rainbow Baby," so I celebrated her presence in this sweet skirt and applique for shirt. Note: The skirt was designed for girls with some girth around the middle. My granddaughter is experiencing a growth spurt and is now tall and lean for her age. Per a FB Sheepjes Group discussion, "Gemma" in the UK had the same issue in making this skirt. She ended up plaiting a length of blue yarn and weaving it in just below the waist band, bringing both ends to the back, allowing enough to tie a bow. I did the same, opting to chain instead. You'll note the ins-and-outs of the chain just below the waist. My granddaughter said, "Oma, I want to wear this forever," as it was hastily placed on her today for her trip home. (Shirt back: crocheted a tiny rainbow and sewed it to the back neckline, in addition to the appliquie on the front and crocheted a large rainbow, which I glued to an 8.5x11 piece of white paper, above which was computer printed: Leela's Rainbow Binder.
