Sometimes you have to hold on by a thread or maybe a yarn. That's how I managed the first several weeks of handling the news that I was facing a diagnosis of an unusual strain of uterine cancer. I was told to stay away from crowds and not return to my classroom of adorable special needs kindergarteners because of my lower immune systems and upcoming operation.
The mailman brought the thread, ok the yarn, sent by my daughter with a wish list of hats for all the girls in the family. It was a challenge I accepted even thought I had never made a hat. I also had not done any knitting while I was teaching for the last 26 years. My loving grandmother had taught me the craft many years ago. As I knitted I felt connected to her strength and at the same time happy to be creating something for my daughters and granddaughters.
The skills returned quickly after reviewing steps on "you-tube". The finished pink fuzzy hats has given me courage to work on a summer sweater as I work though my chemo.
