    About

    I became fascinated with colours when I first came across pictures of Kaffe Fassett's work and have knitted and crocheted throws in the past but when I saw pictures of Persian Dream knitting on Pinterest I just had to try it . I of course came to Loveknitting to search for the pattern and yarn. I decided to change the main colour to my favourite turquoise and picked the other colours to contrast with that, so when it came to knitting, although I followed the charted pattern, I chose how to use the colours myself.

    Then, instead of making the very big throw in the pattern, I decided to stop when it was big enough for my needs and ordered more wool so that I could try it with a very dark main colour - some of the new ones can be seen in the second photo. I hadn't done much knitting on circular needles before this so I was learning as I went, and by going to YouTube I also learnt how to graft with the Kitchener stitch. I actually really enjoyed doing that - which was just as well!

    • Circular 2.75mm (US 2) 100cm

    Accessories

    • Tapestry Needle
    Other : Instead of stitch holders I held all stitches on lengths of contrasting wool until I needed to pick them up on needles again for the grafting

    55 X 47 inches

    Notes: I did fewer repeats of the hexagons and halved the rows in the border.

      Absolutely gorgeous; I am fascinated by your ability to change the colors, as I have not had as much success doing so. I also like the darker version you initiated. Any tips on how you visualized each hexagon uniquely, but still managed to make them go together so beautifully?

        Hello Karen, Thank you so much for your comments. When I start each hexagon I don't have an actual plan of how it will look but I try to use the colours in a different order, so that the centres, middle and edges are varied ( although obviously the orders are sometimes more or less repeated but look different on the different patterns) . Then when I come to sew them together it's a matter of laying them out and trying different combinations, so I'm afraid that nothing is planned - its just trial and error! I like a bit of randomness but I also think that it looks stunning if the same pattern and colours are used for each hexagon! Just have a go and have fun with it 😃 Xx

      Really can not find the colours. I can see where it states Yarns and there is a picture of a ball of yarn and beside it is says "Cascade 220 Sport - Blue Hawaii (9421) - Blue Hawaii (9421) When I try to open Yarns nothing happens. Still can not find the list of colours. Any other clues? Thanks.

        Hello Floree, thank you so much for your comment :) - the colours are actually listed in a comment quite near the bottom of page 2 , about 3 months ago. Not easy to find, sorry, I keep meaning to add them to the yarn list. X

        Hello, If you are comfortable knitting in the round with two colours it really isnt difficult - you just take one round at a time, and if you use your own palette, as I did, you can just change the colours when you want. I must admit that it got easier with practice! xx

      Hi! I was wondering if you listed your colors, a page of comments back, in the same order as you replaced them on the color chart on the original pattern? You have Blue Hawaii first instead of the White (A) for instance so would Blue Velvet now replace Fairy Tale (B)? and so on? If so, I note the original has 14 colors and you listed 15. Thank you for sharing your stunning work.

        Hi Mary, no - I didn't follow the colour changes in the charts at all, I just used which ever colour I thought would look good. Sometimes I just faded from
        Dark to light in the same shades and sometimes I used a complete contrast. Therefore every hexagon is unique. What makes it fun to do is that nothing is wrong. To paraphrase Kaffe Fassett - when in doubt add another colour :). Just have fun with it. Hope this helps. Xx

      I wanted to ask you about the colors you used. It seems as if the colors are quiet different than the original pattern not just the main color (white) ?

        Thank you - I must get the list of colours added to the information.:) I started with a lot of the colours from the original pattern, and then ordered some more once I had started and could see how they worked against the turquoise.

      Congratulations on creating such a beautiful throw. You say you changed the main colour, yet you have retained an authentic and exotic palette reminiscent of tiles in a riad. You clearly have an artist's eye and work with yarn in much the same way as a painter works with brush and oils.
