My triangle jacket

I made this for Myself

    About

I wanted to learn how to do complex knitted cables and thought the idea of constructing a jacket out of cabled triangles would allow me to start off small: to make mistakes and only have to take apart a small section of the work. I was intrigued by the interesting way the triangles were assembled to make the bolero. I also thought it would be a perfect project for a winter sun holiday as the pieces under construction would not make me too hot. I made a practice triangle first and got to understand the cabling technique. After looking at my practice triangle, I decided to add an extra twist (C5BF) at the base of the triangle to make it more interesting as the medium size had a lot of panel set-up rows. So far I am in the middle of the third triangle. When I don't feel like the challenge of the cables, I just knit a sleeve. The added bonus is that the big balls of yarn came in a lovely organza bag which serves as a very nice cushion to support my back when I knit.

Thanks again for all the kind words. And encouragement. I am still on holiday and the internet is intermittent to say the least and I am unable to "like" or "reply" to the individual comments at the moment. For those of you asking: If you scroll down you will see the pattern number and also how I added the extra cable twist. Have fun with this pattern!

@Ann W: you say you did the the C5BF on row 9. Is that 9th of the 1st 14 rows? (based on the 1st-4th row to set moss st. & cable, work 10 rows more - total of 14 rows before Proceed as Follows...))

@D R: I did the medium size and there are 4 rows After cast-on then the pattern tells you knit another 14 rows keeping the set-up pattern. This makes 18 rows total of set-up pattern before the complex cables start. So I divided 18 in two and added the C5BF at row 9 so it was half way from the cast-on row to the start of the complex pattern. It sounds like you are doing the small size so it would be (4+10) /2 = row 7 from the cast-on. In other words, if I was making the small size, I would add the C5BF on the 7th row after cast-on. If you are making the large size it would be (4+18)/2= row 11 from the cast-on. I hope this helps. Have fun knitting! I am still in the middle of this project, but it is very enjoyable to see the triangles knitting up.

@Ann W: Thanks so much!. I'm just testing a triangle to become familiar with the pattern. I appreciate your help. I wasn't sure if odd or even rows were the right side.

@D R: I think it's a good idea to do a test triangle. I considered the first row (knit) to be row 1, so that means odd rows are the right side by my thinking. Good luck and post some pictures!

@Ann W: After you did the C5BF did you just go back to knitting those sts the following rows until you got past the set-up rows?

@D R: yes: I just changed that one row and continued to knit as instructed. How is it coming along?

@Ann W: I've finished a triangle. Don't see a place to upload a photo. You may like a pattern called Tree of Life. It's available on Lionbrand.com. as a large throw or baby throw.

@D R: thanks for the suggestion- I will take a look. I just finished a baby blanket yesterday (had to take a break from the jacket to get it done). If you go to your profile and click on "create project" you can add info about your project and upload photos there. You can also do it from the LoveKnitting app which is how I started. However, I think it only works for patterns you are using in the app. I'll be uploading the blanket later today as it's fun to see all your projects together. Looking forward to seeing yours!

Thank you Violet. I did a practice triangle in the medium size and decided to do the extra cable C5BF on the 9th row, exactly half way from the first row to the first "official" pattern cable row. I'm sure you could adapt this for the other sizes. Good luck with your project!
