Every year school celebrates Christmas jumper day. I don't like the idea of buying cheap jumpers as I don't know who made them, what the conditions of the workplace were or how much the person was paid to make the jumper. I decided to make my daughter a jumper this year. I started by asking her to draw a picture of what she wanted on the front of her jumper and then I photocopied this onto a sheet of squared graph paper (1cm squares). We then watched over the days as her picture became part of her jumper. To work collaboratively with my 8yr old has been gorgeous and it's given her insight and confidence to experiment and believe that things can be made! I've included a photo showing my daughter's original drawing and the photocopy from it. She was VERY particular about colours and design and was really involved with placing the pom poms and bead. She came up with the idea for the ear muffs, which was genius! This project pushed me to expand my crochet boundaries too which is great!
