Mum is retired and goes to a club every Wednesday. I wanted her to have something she could just throw over her shoulders but also looked good. As a great knitter herself i also wanted it to be impressive!
That said i used smaller needles as i found the pattern using 10mm needles to be very difficult. I used 7mm instead which created a tighter lace effect

It's a 10 row pattern with quite a lot of yarn over knit together etc - and 10mm needles just felt too thick. That said you have to repeat the pattern more frequently if you use small er needles so really the choice is your
