I suffered a stillbirth in January of this year, and I knew I wanted to do something in memory of my baby, something to let me "be with" him, and at the same time help me to cope with the loss. Familiar with knitting, the idea of making a blanket for my baby kept popping up. One helpful post finally helped me to make my decision: a few women were making Temperature Afghans to mark the year of their loss -- I decided I'd like to take it a step further, and instead of recording the weather, I'd record my mood instead, choosing 18 colours to represent 18 moods, thus creating a sort of visual journal of my year: the ups and the downs, the good and the bad days. I keep a journal in tandem with the crocheting. That said, this was crochet, not knitting, and the satisfaction of learning a couple of different stitches, as well as the feel of the yarn, and the idea of what I was doing, was and has been immensely helpful in my grieving process. I'm not sure where I'd be without this project!
