    About

My small town in Northern California (Healdsburg) has been sending care packages to US soldiers since we 'adopted' a battalion during the Korean War in 1951. My local yarn shop asked local knitters to make 500 hats this year. I knit four snug, all-wool, helmet liners.

    Pattern

    Purls of Joy Helmet Liner

This pattern can be found here:

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 5.00mm (US 8) 120cm
    • Circular 4.50mm (US 7) 120cm

    Accessories

    • Tapestry Needle
    • Stitch Markers

    Measurements

Notes: I made two sizes of helmet liners. The pattern called for US size 7 needles, but that produced smaller adult hats. I switched to US size 8 needles for the second two hats, which produced a large hat. I use magic loop with longer circular needles, rather than the 16-inch circular needles and double-pointed needles recommended in the pattern.
