Helen's Wendy Blanket

I made this for those who feel the cold. I tend to feel the cold so I made this Wendy Blanket to keep cosy on the sofa during UK winters, especially the most recent winter where it has been colder and for longer than expected.

    About

I began this project as a pass time for the train as I travelled to and from work. I completed all the small squares this way and then began crocheting them together using a Youtube video to demonstrate how to join the small 'granny' squares. Rather than the colours suggested I chose scarlet, ecru, sky blue, navy blue and gold/mustard as my colours. As the blanket got bigger I was able to keep more of me warm!! Balls of wool (50g and approx 105m) were bought as the blanket progressed. The total balls of wool I used are a guide dependant on tension. Total weight of blanket = 2.3kg.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Crochet Hook 4.00mm (US 6)

    Accessories

    • Tapestry Needle
Other : Tapestry needle used for running threads from granny squares into work

    Measurements

    2 x 2 meters

    Notes: I did 4 rounds of granny squares rather than 5: 1st round = 12 squares; 2nd round = 28 squares; 3rd round = 44 squares; 4th round = 68 squares.
Between 3rd and 4th round of granny squares were 8 stripes: 2 each of mustard, sky, ecru, red; then reversed: red, ecru, sky, mustard.
I did not put the scallop on as last border, but if added I would complete using navy colour
