    About

I'm 61 and used to play games on my tablet constantly. I had chronic back problems and couldn't relax or sleep well. I learned loom knitting just about a year ago & I haven't had a loom out of my hands since! Now my back is better. I'm much more relaxed. I knit at least an hour before bed and can fall asleep easier. Harper, 4, told me how much she liked the scarf and hat I made for her. She asked for another set in pink. Then she asked, "Can you make me mittens, too?" I had to say yes, but had no idea how! Found a pattern by Bethany Daily and adjusted the sizing. Hard part - where to put the thumbs! Plus, I wanted cuffs. After about three prototypes, I had a pair of mittens for Harper! I added loomed flowers in a sparkly purple yarn to all. I added flowers to both sides of the scarf to hide the flower knots. She and her mom are going to New York this month and Harper is so happy to have her mittens, scarf and hat to keep her warm! She loves the "blingy" flowers! And I love knitting!!!

    Needles & Hooks

Other : 24 peg small gauge (3/8") CinDwood loom, Hana-ami Flower Loom and Clover PomPom maker.

    Accessories

    • Tapestry Needle
    • Stitch Markers
Other : I use the rubber bands used for making the rainbow bracelets as stitch markers - they work great no matter what the peg size and there are so many colors to choose from that it is easy when making complex patterns.

    Measurements

Notes: I made the youth with a couple of adjustments since this was for a 4 year old. The adult mitten was done in the round on the 24 peg Knifty Knitter loom but the youth was done as a flat panel using 20 pegs. This was too open using the DK yarn even using two strands. I switched to a small gauge 24 peg round CinDwood loom and used two strands - much better and I could knit in the round instead of flat panel - no purls! I changed the starting to 20 rows of ewrap in order to make a cuff and have the tail tucked in. Shortened the rows between the cuff and the start of the thumb to 6 rows. Shaped the finger area by alternating ewrap and uknit for two rows and then decreased every other peg for the last row and gathered off, seaming the thumb.
