    About

Inspired by fellow knitters on Loveknitting.com and in honour of a good friend who passed away last year, I decided to give sock knitting a go. It took several false starts and lots of online videos but eventually I got to grips with knitting on 5 needles. I had to switch to bamboo after 3 attempts as the stitches kept falling off but now they stay put. I’ve only managed one sock in 5 weeks! I hope the second will be quicker as I should have the hang of it now. I was so excited to finish and find it fits that I had to share.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Double Point 2.75mm (US 2) 15cm

    Accessories

    • Stitch Holder
    • Tapestry Needle
    • Stitch Markers
Other : Didn’t like metal double points so switched to bamboo and the stitches stick better.

    Measurements

    8in

Notes: I shortened the foot length and it still came out a fraction too long for a size 5 foot. Length can be altered easily.

      Great first attempt. Looks perfect.
I also like the bamboo, just the right amount of grip for the stitches.

It looks great, well done you. Like Lynn A I find short circular needle much easier than DPNs which I cannot get on with. The Addi Crasytrio are also great, a bit expensive but worth it in combination with short circular they are really fast.

Hi, I found bamboo needles much better as the stitches didn’t slip off but it was still a bit fiddly.

@Donna S: you could try a short circular. I have a Hiya Hiya one 23cm long with bamboo ends. Think I got it on Love Knitting

Well done on your first sock - it looks great and a lovely colour too. I have also recently started to make socks but cannot get to grips with DPNs, there are too many points! I find magic loop with a circular needle much easier, maybe give that a try.

Thank you. I did wonder if a circular needle would work but mine are too long. What length needle do you use?

I use an 80cm needle and find this to be just right for me. I’ve tried a few and the one I prefer is by Addi.
