Yay, I got it! I think I wasn't doing the M1 correctly but now I'm up to row 29! One quick question on row 29 when it says K3 at the end and then says (+4 sts) what does +4 st. refer to? Thanks so much for your help!

Yay!! I’m glad! This is such a pretty pattern! I’m glad you stuck with it! I believe that +4 is just letting you know that on each of those rows you’ve increased 4 stitches.
And, you are welcome but I think you’ve figured it out yourself 😉

Joy, thanks a lot for your comments- I think the hook worked ok. If I give you row 7 and 8, could you check them against what you have? Maybe I have a pattern that wasn't corrected? Row. 7 says K3, SM, M1L, K1, M1R, K until marker, M1R, K1, M1L, SM, K3.
and R8 says K3, Sm, P til marker, SM, P1, K1 to one st before next marker, P1, SM, P til next marker, SM, K3. If this is correct then I am doing something wrong! Thanks!!

I just checked that for you and that is what my pattern says. After row 7 you should have 53 stitches. What is happening to make you think it is not right?

the mistake was corrected by the designer-
R5 should have read SM, M1, PM K3. My question was how do you pick up 3 st. on the short side? I used a crochet hook but it makes a stretch of yarn 3 st. wide. I couldn't find a tutorial on this. Can you help? Thanks so much!

I guess when I got the pattern it was already corrected. When I picked up the stitches I didnt use a crochet hook. I just used the knitting needle and just put the needle into the stitch and picked up the stitch. I don’t remember if it stretched too much but if it did, it just eased back on its own. I do remember looking up how to do it on youtube because I had never done it before. I was trying to find the video that I used so I could send you the link but I couldnt find the one I used. I’m better with video than with written directions myself. Did you try to do it with just a knitting needle rather than a crochet hook? I wish I could be more help!

I gave up on it because I can't find anyone to help with mistakes in the directions-frustrating- not everyone seems to have problems understanding it

It’s been a while since I made this shawl and I am not an expert but maybe I could help you? I don’t recall having any problems with it. What problems are you having with it? Or have you given up on it altogether? I actually really love this shawl. I love the pattern of it. It would be a shame for you to give up.

I did not have any trouble with the pattern and did not notice any mistakes. It was my first shawl that I knit and didn’t have any issues with it.
