Hi Beth, I think the same is true. When I was younger I knitted lots of different styles, tackling complex patterns without any giving much thought to the difficulty factor of them. I was never one for making up my own patterns but I would tackle anything, the more colourful the better, where as now I’m easily stressed 😫 by just reading some of these patterns. Now I just stick mostly to baby cardigans or toys with the very occasional ladies or gents jumper/ cardigan. 😊
What a lovely cardigan, fabulous cable work Beth. I like James C Brett wool, always knits up beautifully, good quality too. You have made a beautiful job of knitting your husband’s cardigan. 😊
Thankyou Alison. I think that because I was so young (4) when my mum taught me to knit and that she was a proficient knitter, it never occurred to me to be nervous about approaching any level of knitting and patterning. Certainly some things are easier and some more complex, but I have never worried or even thought that I wouldn't be able to do ANY pattern I fancied.
Thankyou Michelle. I made a slicht boob when deciding how much yarn to get for this 2nd one. The pattern said 12 balls, but as I wanted to make it a bit longer I ordered 15 balls. Then later I realised that the pattern was for 12 50 gram balls and I had just got 15 100 gram balls. So I already have enough for the third cardi once he wears his way through this one, LOL!
As it's only the elbowsthat get worn through, the next time I should only have to knit new sleeves, not the whoke cardigan!
I used James C Brett, Chunky with Merino, shade CM19. Not sure if he does that shade any more but it is very similar in colour to the original, though if you put the two next to each other they would be quite obviously different.
