    About

My daughter, Kayleigh had been asking me for months for a waistcoat. She kept seeing them everywhere and wanted it for the summer. However, I had been so busy building my website and working on other projects that I didn’t have time. Kayleigh also had trouble deciding what type of pattern she wanted it to be but she finally decided on a shell stitch, which I found in “Funky Chunky Crocheted Accessories” by Jan Eaton (another library find) and I formed the pattern around it.

I made the waistcoat in three parts – back, front left and front right. I also made them completely straight, meaning I didn’t shape it for the armholes, nor the neck. I crocheted the fronts longer than the back so that the join would sit slightly behind Kayleigh’s shoulder. Therefore, when I sewed the pieces together, I lined up the bottom first, sewed up the sides to the point where I needed to stop to leave armholes and then I joined the shoulders. I then crocheted a simple shell edge down both front pieces.
