I also ran out of orange and red. Luckily I had ordered yarn for two blankets so was able to complete the motifs using the yarn meant for the second one. Think I may also be running short of black to complete the finishing off so will poach that too! Adapted the pattern for the hearts and flower squares as I felt they were a bit bulky in chunky wool. Also had to use a smaller hook size and redo my first motif as it was huge - I know I tend to crochet slack. Hope my daughter likes her blanket after all this palaver! I have lots of yarn left over so second blanket (for me) will now be completely different as I am not buying replacements for the colours I needed to “borrow”. Next time I’ll check the comments before I start!
Yep - I’ve just run out of red. I got stuck on the flower - I don’t think the written pattern is correct, as I couldn’t get them to look the same as the photos, but found the designer’s video on this site which shows how she does it :-)
Looks great! I've started work on this - just wondering if you found the recommended number of balls of yarn for the red and orange were enough for the entire project? Also, I'm finding the instructions on the hearts a bit tricky. I can't get them to look like the hearts on the pattern - they end up being wider in the middle and a bit more messy looking. Any tips? Thanks!
Hello! I think I ordered twice the amount of wool for nearly every colour - I couldn’t make head nor tail of her tension description to be honest, and I didn’t measure the final piece, so I’m not sure if mine was a lot larger (it didn’t look it to be fair).
I freestyled a bit when I couldn’t understand the pattern - so with the hearts, I think I fudged them a bit, going up the foundation chain and then working into the top to make the dip of the heart. If you can’t get it, just look for a simple heart pattern elsewhere and use that, it will still work for the pattern overall.
Also watch out for the colours she uses - the ones she states in the pattern aren’t always the same as the ones on the pattern pictures. I followed the colours on the photos, not the pattern!
Good luck, it’s easy once you have done a couple of each!
@Emma A: This is great advice - thank you Emma! I actually did a bit of a practice run before I started on the real colours and noticed a number of errors, and contacted lovecrafts about it. It took a while, but they corrected the problems with the colours and a couple of other errors in the pattern and sent me through version 3.0! I don't think they've updated it on the website yet though...
Great tip on the hearts - I'm going to just go with an online version. I'll make sure to update my project as I go!
