    About

A Christening gift for my Grandson's Christening Day 6.8.17

My mum made a blanket for my children to use on their birth and christening day. I thought I would try to make a special one as an heirloom gift for my grandchildren.

I was thinking that I would be using DK wool but when I ordered the pattern and wool. I had ordered a beautiful soft cotton, after much thought on whether i could make it, I went for it and am nervously excited as its taking me every waking moment to complete it. I am enjoying seeing it develop and grow into something quite beautiful!!

    Yarns

    Needles & Hooks

    • Single Point 3.25mm (US 3) 25cm
    • Single Point 3.25mm (US 3) 30cm

    Accessories

    • Stitch Markers
Other : My stitch markers were actually other coloured wool to maintain and balance the amount of knitting achieved in a single knitting session and achieve certain amounts of work in a time frame.

I also used ribbon 12mmx5m in cream to create decorative bord

    Measurements

Notes: I am making my blanket smaller by (5") on the length of the inner section.. The width is the amount of stitches cast on (185) so the inner section will measure 34"x29". The reason for this is making sure I have enough time to complete project and that I do not run out of the yarn. There is also a 4" border enveloping the centre section so blanket with be plenty big enough I think! Fingers crossed!!

Ahh thank you Beth it’s still I think my best work. At the time I was worried I wouldn’t be able to knit very well with cotton, as thought it a step too far, but I just had to go for it! I couldn’t not finish it for my Grandsons christening;) it was a proud moment seeing him using it on the day ;) it’s amazing what you can do when you put you mind to it ;) thank you once again Beth x
