As soon as I heard my cousin was expecting I saw it as a wonderful opportunity to not only give her something handmade that will last a lifetime, but also to try my hand at a new skill. It also helps that I've taken the summer off from work before I start pastry school in the fall, so it feels like I have all the time in the world to craft (and do laundry, and dishes, and cook dinners, and make lunches, blah blah blah). It was my first time doing lace work (I tend to favour cables) and I must admit I had a blast! I've also never frogged so many rows in my life - but it was all worth it. It was also my first time working with Premier Yarns DK Colours (Colour Rose Garden) and it worked up beautifully. I tend to have a tight tension so I had to move up a full needle size than what was recommended in the pattern. All in all it took me about a month to complete, and as quick and simple as it was, I'd happily knit it again next time someone I know is expecting!
