    About

I have had this pattern for an age but as I struggle with patterns I had avoided it but still wanted to have a go. Decided the Christmas hols would be a good time so I raided the stash and set about my flowers. All went well but I have to say I struggled with the joining instructions and I did not join as instructed so my elephant has some ridges but hey wouldn't every elephant. Really enjoyable project came together well would definitely have a go at another one.

Hi Sarah, hope your well. Just wondering if you can remember what size of eyes you used, I have 12mm but cant decide if they are going to be too small. Maybe once I stuff it they will look ok. 🙂

Hi Catherine I have measured the eyes and they are roughly about 12mm / 14mm and look okay elephants don't have the biggest eyes do they. Can't wait to see your finished ellie

Sarah can I ask you, did you join as you go or sew up at the end?

I made all the flowers first and organised them into the sizes and then did at the end. Good luck

Sarah I love your elephant so much I've bought the pattern, I hope it turns out half as good as yours!

I am sure it will! Shall look forward to seeing a finish project! I am a terrible pattern reader and held onto this pattern for a long time and when I joined mine I sort of did it inside out so the ridges were on the outside but it turned out okay anyway. :)

@Catherine McG: Think you just have to go with what works for you in crochet much like life itself. Have fun with the project x

Stunning, absolutely stunning piece of work, it’s beautiful, the colours are lovely and your wrong way of joining it up adds to the texture of the elephants skin 💕

Fabulous. I love the African flower animals. The way you joined the shapes adds so much more to your elephant. I prefer it the way you have joined. A great stash project Sarah.

thank you. my wrong way of joining give the elephant a bit of texture which I think an elephant should have! I have been using stylecraft silver on another project and keep thinking how nice it would be on another elephant so watch this space :)

This looks amazing - I love the detail of the different colours on face and the gems... when I’ve finished my African flower blanket I think this might be next on my list!!

Thank you I highly recommend giving the elephant a go. I do love doing African Flowers. The coloured face detail was a last minute change of plan and a scrabble through the scrapbag, the gem is a bead from an old lampshade :)

What a beautiful way to use up some smaller stashes of yarn....this is really pretty. I struggle with joining so maybe not for me but great work.
