st – stitch

ch – chain stitch

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

star st – star stitch

Foundation

Chain in multiples of 2 + 1.

Step by step

  1. Row 1: Pick up a loop in 2nd ch from hook, and in each of next 4 ch (6 loops on hook), YO, draw through all loops on hook, ch1 (ch1 forms the "eye of star"). *Pick up a loop in the eye of the last star. Pick up a loop through the last loop of the previous star st. Pick up a loop through the same ch as the last loop of the previous star. Pick up a loop in each of next 2 ch (6 loops on hook), YO, draw through all loops on hook, ch1 (ch1 forms the "eye of star"). Repeat from the * all across. 1 hdc in last ch (same ch as the last loop of the last star). Turn your work.
  2. Row 2: Ch1, 1 sc in same st. 1 sc in the "eye" of the 1st star st. *2 sc in the "eye" of the next star st. Repeat from the * all across. 1 sc in turning ch. Turn your work.
  3. Row 3: Ch2, pick up a loop in the front strand of 2nd ch from hook, then pick up a loop in the back strand of the same ch. Pick up a loop in each of next 3 sts (6 loops on hook), YO, draw through all loops on hook, ch1 (ch1 forms the "eye of star). *Pick up a loop in the eye of the last star. Pick up a loop through the last loop of the previous star st. Pick up a loop through the same st as the last loop of the previous star.
