How to Crochet a Rainbow Granny Square Blanket
What You'll Need:
- 4mm crochet hook
- Darning needle
- 10 balls of Paintbox Yarns Simply DK
Hints-Each colour is used for 3 rounds for the main granny square pattern and then used again for the edging. The edging is a simple round of double crochet in each shade and then finished off with a bobble stitch using Light caramel (108)
Note: This pattern is written using UK terms
Rnd 1 Using shade 147 make a slip knot on your hook and ch4, slip stitch into the first chain (furthest away from hook) to form a ring. Work the following, ch3 (counts as the first tr) 2tr, ch2, *3tr, ch2* repeat from * to * twice, sl st into the top of the ch3, sl st along to next corner chain space.
Rnd 2 Ch3, 2tr, ch2, 3tr,ch1, *3tr,ch2,3tr,ch1* repeat from * to * twice, sl st into top of ch3, sl st along to next corner chain space.
Rnd 3 Ch3, 2tr, ch2, 3tr (corner made) ch1, 3tr in ch1-space, ch1, *3tr,ch2,3tr,ch1, 3tr,ch1* repeat from * to * twice, sl st into top of the ch3. Fasten Off.
Joining new colours is simple, make a slip knot on your hook with the next colour and join in a corner space. Place your hook through the corner space and join with a slip stitch. It’s that quick and easy!
Rnds 4-30 Continue working future rounds as before. Remember to work all corners as follows- 3tr, ch2, 3tr. Then 3tr into each of the ch1 spaces, remembering to ch1 either side of the 3trs.
Step 1Using the same colour sequence as the main pattern, double crochet in each stitch around making sure you work 3-4 dc in each corner to give a nice neat finish.
Step 2Using shade 108 (Light Caramel) attach yarn with a dc, into any st, chain 6, yarn over and working into the 3rd ch from hook, pull up loop, yarn over and through 2 loops on your hook. There should be 2 loops remaining, continue this another 2 times until you have 4 loops on your. Yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook. Ch3, copy this process again but this time working into the top of the first half of the bobble you just made. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on hook. Join with sl st into the bottom of the first half of the bobble. You should have a full bobble now! Ch3, miss 3 stitches, dc into the next.
Continue working the bobbles all around, spacing them every 4th stitch, when you reach the end sl st into the first dc.
