    About

I had the skein of Helen's Lace in my stash and decided the Iris Garden colours (a mix of purples, cool & warm pink) would go perfectly with the dark plum from Cascade for a hat to mix & match with several pink & purple scarves in my wardrobe. I tried to find the Iris Garden colour in one of Lorna's Laces' slightly thicker threads - solemate or shepherd's sock would be just right - but the colour seems to be no longer available (at least in the UK) so I used multiple strands of the lace thread instead. A bit tricky to manage, and took quite a lot of trial & error to work out how many strands I needed to get the right density & tension, but the result is worth it. My first tension sample used 2 strands of each thread and I think in the end I used 3 strands of Cascade Heritage sock & 4 of Helen's Lace in the finished hat.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Crochet Hook 5.50mm (US 9)

    Accessories

    • Stitch Markers
Other : I cheated and used a stitch marker to mark where the next increase would be - easier than trying not to lose count when interrupted. A pack of stitch markers or decorative pins also came in handy for checking the number of stitches at the end of rounds -
