I have wanted to learn to knit and crochet for many years. My grandmother made amazing crochet lace and I wish I had spent the time to learn from her whilst she was still alive. I taught myself to knit 2 years ago. This Last Christmas, after a bit of prompting, my son bought me crochet hooks and I spent the whole holiday learning to crochet. I have to say it's worse than knitting. Totally addictive!
I didn't know what I wanted to make as a first project then spied this pattern on Pinterest, and decided a nice thank you gift would be a bedspread for my son in jazzy colours. I tracked down the pattern and ordered it from the designers website, but I couldn't wait to start. So with a bit of squinting and head scratching I thought I could work out how these granny squares were made and started on my first 20 blocks. By the time pattern arrived in the post my blanket was looking more like a scarf, but reading though it I had got it mostly right, so I am carrying on with my own method.
