2 months before being injured in a serious car crash I had taught myself to knit; using a mixture of books, videos and advice from my partner.
During the months I was confined to a wheel chair knitting kept me sane. My hands were kept busy and my brain was engaged. Knitting helped pass the time during long waits in hospitals and at surgeries, and my mind focused on something other than pain and my fears for the future.
My first project, completed just after my release from hospital, was a jumper. It wasn't great but the sense of achievement was amazing.
I had firmly caught the bug for wool.
I might be back on my feet but still need to feel yarn to running though my hands. I find the movements relaxing and the infinite possibility of pattern fascinating. This last knitting project, a stylish winter warmer with an easy to follow pattern, was a present to myself for a change. The wool I had wasn't exactly right for the pattern so did experimental swatches with different needles.
