I used a separate pattern for the legwarmers and inserted the Tree of Gondor chart by Lusianne in place of the stripes on the original legwarmers pattern https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tree-of-gondor-chart-2
The chart is better suited to a garment knit flat so I have alot of back threads to weave in. I would leave them to felt but I've used alpaca mix so it might not work as well as 100% wool.
