    About

I'm a beginner at making socks. This is my second pair. (My first was Kilt Hose -- see my other project photos.) A toe-up pattern seemed like it might be a bit easier, and it was. German Short Rows work well and produce a nice result on both the toe & heel. I was also pleased with Patons Kroy self-striping sock yarn. It has long intervals that produce distinct, wide stripes with defined borders. My elderly cat "helped" (see photo). I'm pretty sure there's enough yarn left over to make children's mittens. We'll see...

    • Stitch Holder
Other : On the first sock, I left a double-point needle in the top of the foot while I was turning the heel. On the second sock, I used a piece of scrap yarn to hold these stitches instead. The scrap yarn stitch holder method was MUCH better! Lesson learned...

    Measurements

    Notes: Women's Socks
I'm nearly 6 ft tall, and often wear men's socks, because women's socks tend to be too short. Because I knit these a bit longer in the body and cuff, I bought two balls of yarn. One ball would normally be enough for a standard pair of women's socks.
