A no-sweat pattern with a cool effect!
This lace shawl was crocheted in one piece from the top down using 2 strands of fingering weight gradient. (Although you could easily use one strand of DK weight instead.)
The pattern was primarily gradually-increasing columns of treble crochet offset by gradually-increasing chain stitches. However, at the beginning and end of each row, shorter stitches (sc and dc) were employed to automatically mimic the shape of a seashell. After a few repeats, the pattern was quite intuitive since, due to the vertical nature of the lace, it was easy to see where to work the stitches. Personally, I would rate the skill level as “advanced beginner” as opposed to “intermediate.”
I think this would also make a great summer shawlette if made a bit wider using a single strand of cotton fingering.
