    About

Pearl loved the ponchos I made for Michael & Iona, she thought one would keep her warm, she really feels the cold now she is approaching 91! I thought a poncho would be difficult for her to put on & take off, so I found this virus shawl tutorial on Bella Coco's You Tube Channel. The sparkle in the wool is fabulous. I haven't given it to her yet, I shall wait until a little closer to her birthday. I really loved making this, once you get used to the pattern it is very easy, but learnt to check each row is correct before starting the next!! I am not the best photographer, the photos don't show how lovely this shawl looks or the lovely sparkle running through the yarn. Check out the You Tube clip and you can see clearly what a lovely stitch and yarn this is.

I love this! But alas, I'm a newbie, so I will practice and practice until I'm good enough to attack a project like this. It's simply gorgeous!

How many balls of yarn did you use for this shawl, Sue?

I thought I had put quantity on project details, I think 5.

This is so beautiful! Sadly I'm a knitter rather than a crocheter, but I love the colours and pattern. I am sure this gave great joy to Pearl!

Hi Bee, thanks. I was a knitter, but taught myself to crochet from You Tube tutorials. I now crochet more than I knit! You should try it, start with a basic granny square. I recommend Bella Coco, Creative Grandma and Jayda In Stitches. They all do good explanations and slowly!

@Sue: Hi Sue, I learnt to knit and crochet at school - I guess that Indicates my age ;) !!
I did give it a go with the shawl, using both the tutorial you recommended and some other online information and actually finished one. I posted it as a project and mentioned you as my original source! Thank you, your shawl was an inspiration to me and I, too plan to carry on crocheting more again. The last time was literally decades ago!!! :D

@Bee: Lovely! I have just seen your shawl, great job. It's such a lovely pattern and I enjoyed making it. I made another one for my friend in navy sparkling yarn. My mother-in-law Pearl is now 92 and uses it a lot during the Winter as she doesn't move about much, made her a lap blanket as well! My Nan taught me to knit when I was about 6 years old. I first taught myself to crochet from a book when I was about 10. Started crocheting again a few years ago.
