My first socks !!!!

I made this for Me,this is my first time ever at knitting socks !

    First time ever at knitting sock, so here goes ! Taking a bit of getting used to with the five wee needles,slow going but getting there just, turned the heel, wow learning so much here, getting muddled up with the needles but I’m determined to do this ! Finished first sock, found Kitchener stitch very difficult to do,watched a few videos but kept getting muddled up half way across and losing my place hence a poor finish on top of my sock ;(. I’ve done it !!! I’ve finished my socks ,I must say the second sock was easier to do and I managed a form of the kitchener stitch ! Well my version of it :) And I’m really pleased with myself ,love my socks :)

      One of my favourite authors, Barbara Pym, long since gone unfortunately, has one of her characters mention her trials with Kitchener Stitch in “Some Tame Gazelle”. I have to chant to myself, “front needle - knit off purl on, back needle - purl off knit on”, while repelling all boarders who attempt to make conversation. It’s worth the effort, gives a lovely finish. Persevere!

      Yes it took me ages to pluck up the courage to knit my first pair of socks but I enjoyed knitting them,there is so many nice colours of wool out there too😊

      I love the colours of these socks. I’ve been thinking about trying socks for a while now as lots of people seem addicted to knitting them once they start. You have inspired me to give it a go.

      Oh my gosh, these colours!!! Knitting socks has always been high up on my "I'll never be masterful enough" list. Haha, although I'm sure they can't be much harder than toys ^_^ LOVE your first pair!!!

      WELL DONE ON THE FIRST EVER PAIR OF SOCKS! I've never done socks either. I learned to knit on the round with only 4 DPNs (3 holding the stiches and 1 to knit) I still do it that way.
      @Donna S, GSR stands for German Short Rows - an alternative to Wrap and Turn.

      These are lovely socks, the wool comes out great. Did you do the patterns or did it come out in the wool because I really like.

      I also found the kitchener stitch fiddly at first and it was difficult to get the tension quite right and avoid having hard corners. A have found a good alternative is a round toe closure. All done by decreasing while knitting on the needles and drawing the last few stitches in, as with the top of a hat. There is also a star closure, but haven't tried this one. I have a 2 pairs, one with kitchener and one with round toe closure. Both equally comfortable to wear.

        have you done GSR Donna, just foundout how to do that & it shouldn't work by theory but it is much neater and I don't know why it works.

        @Donna S: sorry Donna I did not see you in my notification😔it stands for "German Short Rows" there seems to be a lot to it but once you get the hang of it, it looks easy. Go to YouTube and put it in and it will show you better than I can tell you.

      Thankyou Pam, there is never enough hours in a day no matter what we are doing !! I find knitting a great stress reliever so pick up my needles whenever I can :)

      I am with you that it takes some time to get used to the size of the needles, but it will be worth it. I have made 2 pairs now and love them when walking the dog. I am not very quick but I am sure that comes with the more you do.

      Love the colours. I cannot manage so many needles so i knit in the round with two circular needles so much easier when you get the hang of it. Love to see them when you have finished.
