Trophy hunting and poaching symbolises what's gone wrong with our relationship to nature. As it has been written before, it epitomises the idea of "mine versus ours," of the mindset that "values ownership more than access, that seeks possessions more than experiences." It is the result of pure greed, untempered by any need for survival or reciprocal respect for nature.
But collective consciousness about this unbalanced, take-all relationship is changing, be it through social media (witness the global outrage over the trophy killing of Cecil the lion), or through art, which is transforming this aspect of modern culture into something a little more wise. Dutch artist Gonny van Hulst aka GonnyGlass uses yarn and crochet needles to create cruelty-free and whimsical "faux taxidermy art."
