I did not crochet these lovely granny squares myself, rather I 'inherited' them from my husband's late aunt, who was great at both knitting and crochet, and who passed away in 1995, leaving behind many many boxes of squares in an assortment of colours and sizes. My husband's sister then had charge of them but she was a sewer and embroiderer rather than a knitter and crocheter and when she died herself in 2002 my mother-in-law offered them to me, still piled up in boxes. I gave away quite a lot to charity before deciding that I really should try and join some of them together and crochet around the whole, as can be seen here. I had enough to also make two single bed rugs for my girls and a knee rug. I think Aunty Dawn would have been proud of my efforts, even though it took me a long time to get around to putting the balance of her squares to good use. I even turned the last few remaining squares into scarves for my daughters and myself!
