    About

This will be my 3rd ever crochet project since picking up a hook for the first time in January. My grandmother made this bag and it has been in my handbag and in daily daily use for almost 40 years. I now think I have worked out how she made it so I am going to try and replicate it for presents this Christmas. Start off by creating 2 round granny squares, put them together leaving an opening gap about a quarter of the diameter. Then make a netting of Solomon’s knots - work the netting from the side (19 initial chains) rather than bottom up. Once the netting is complete chain stitch between the top points of the netting and create handles strengthening them with single crochet.

I have now made 2 using anchor thread size 6 (thanks to advice from wool shop in Berwick). Takes me about 3 days.

1st hurdle is working out what thread she used. Mercerised cotton doesn't look substantial enough.
