    About

Some of you may remember that I started this 3 months ago as a project to share with my 92-year-old Mum, who taught me to knit when I was little. Well, six weeks ago she suffered a stroke and has been in steady decline since then. While she was lying in her hospital bed she would hold the wool for me while I sat knitting by her side. Now she is too weak to do that, but I have finished the four main pieces and am about to sew up the raglan seams and do the neckband. I wonder whether she will see the finished piece. But whether or not she does, this sweater will forever be 'Mum's aran' in my mind.

Just to complete the story, I finished three months after starting, and six days before Mum passed away. So she did get to see it and indicated with a raise of her eyebrows that she thought it was a good job.

Beautiful knitting and such a sad and inspiring story too. Knitting is very therapeutic and I find the intricate ways of an Aran pattern seems to calm me ,best wishes to you and your mum x

Your idea is awe-inspiring. I would never under estimate the power of knitting. It was something that I took up again after a considerable lapse and it helped me to recover from breast cancer. Best wishes to you both.
