    About

I've decided it's finally time to address my WIP box. I'm trying to finish one WIP a month- sometimes its a knitting project to tweak and problem solve, and sometimes it's just a bit of final sewing up and pattern finishing.
Big Grey elephant has finally got this ears attached and eyes sewn on.

I made Big Grey early last year, then got side tracked into making his slightly smaller Cousin Big Orange Elephant from Hoooked Ribbon XL. I put him away because the t shirt yarn I used to knit him, came in unpredictable bobbin sizes- always the same weight but the yarn was sometimes thin and sometimes very thick. So the yardage changed! not very helpful when you are buying it for a pattern. Since then the bobbins have changed and they now have a minimum yardage (120m), so hooray for Big Grey Elephant- he gets to leave the WIP box !!!

Is there a pattern for the little elephant as I wish to make the big one for the toddler and the little one for his baby brother.

Big Orange elephant is made from Hooked ribbon XL and is slightly smaller - 25cm /10” tall x 40cm /15.5” from trunk to tail (big grey is approx. 35cm /14” tall x 46cm /18” from trunk to tail) Unfortunately the size for big grey is only approximate as the yarn does vary in thickness. Sorry I can't be of any greater help.

I’m giving it a go for a housewarming gift to my sister - she loves elephants.

@Hazel H: If you stash a bag of rice or sand near its bum when you stuff it, it could make a good doorstop - I do like to give useful housewarming gifts!!

@Claire Fairall: I thought it might be a nice cushion fit her new sofa, which has a grey stripe in a plaid pattern but a doorstop is a great thought; I might have to knit two now!
