    About

I was looking for a motif pattern to make a lace scarf, remembered the old-fashioned table/dressing table mat patterns Grandma gave me in the 1970's and wondered how well they would work in lace-weight wool ...
The patterns have been unused in my pattern file since the 1980s, and looking at them again reminded me of the tablecloth I'd made from one of them for my mother's 40th birthday - and that her 80th birthday is 4 months away, so of course the scarf has to be a present for that.
This spinning wheel motif worked up beautifully in lace weight wool and made a very pretty lightweight stole for Mum to wrap round her shoulders between dances (my parents' enthusiasm for English country dancing hasn't waned yet, but they take a longer break between dances than they used to).

    Pattern

Spinning Wheel Motif - Coats Crochet Design No. 322

    This pattern is from:
A very old pattern (handed down to me by my Grandma around 1975), unlikely to still be in print

    Needles & Hooks

    • Crochet Hook 2.00mm (US 0)

    Accessories

Other : none used as I'm joining motifs as I work them and "darning" in ends with the crochet hook, but a darning needle/tapestry needle could be used ...

    Measurements

Notes: Using a 2mm hook and malabrigo lace the motifs worked up at 5" in diameter after blocking; the stole/scarf is 4 motifs wide and 12 motifs long (20" x 60")
