    About

I had made two afghans for our nephews wedding gifts and my husband asked me when I would make one for him. He said it had to be bigger and wider so that is what I did. Let me tell you it weighs a ton but oh how it keeps him warm!

Many are asking for this pattern and I never had a pattern - sorry. Here is what you do. Chain first row, start of second row, chain two, double crochet in second chain, chain one, double crochet in second chain, chain one, double crochet in second chain, etc. At the end of the second row chain two turn and continue. Note you should have uneven openings in your row. The size of your blanket will depend on how many openings you want. Keep repeating until you have the length you want. Cut three pieces of yarn longer than the length of the blanket, weave them through the openings. Your next weave will go the opposite way in each opening. When done tie six yarns together to make your fringe. That's about it!

    Needles & Hooks

    • Crochet Hook 5.00mm (US 8)

    Accessories

Other : The accessory is my husband!

    Measurements

Notes: This blanket is very large (at least 6' x 5') It is an easy chain stitch weaving creation. My mother made one that was not finished before she passed away. I finished it and then started to make my own.

This is an amazing blanket! Can you tell the order of colors and how many rows for each color? I can almost figure it out from the picture, but none of the images shows it all. It looks like the the 1st color is 10 rows of black, then 10 white, then 20 of a blue. But I can't see it all.

This is a gorgeous blanket, colors and all! Would you be willing to write a pattern for us? I am one of the confused ones. Ha! Also, I am not understanding the weaving part either. I have all boys and now all grandsons.. Therefore, there are a lot of men/boys in our family. This would be a great blanket to pass down the generations. Most of them are from the North, so warmth is key. I sure would appreciate anything. Thanks!

I think it's a stunning blanket. Where did you get the pattern I think I'll have a try? Fab crocheting on your part.

Chain 205 (or preferred length). In 5th ch from hook, dc. Chain 1, skip the next ch. Dc, ch 1 skip next ch to end. Ch 3 and turn. You will dc in all tc's and ch 1 where the opening is. You are trying to create a "mesh" blanket to weave strands of yarn through. Google crochet plaid afghan and you will find lots of info. I made many of these over the years. The pattern was in one of my old books. Enjoy!

I am wanting to make this blanket, but I am confused about the pattern. Under about you say to double crochet chain 1 double crochet chain one, etc. But in the comments you mention Dc followed by Sc, etc. could you please clarify the pattern to me?
      Thanks

Whoops - so it is a double crochet followed by one chain stitch. My bad

@Ruthie W: so it's a double crochet, chain one, skip one, double crochet, chain one, skip one? Or is it double crochet, chain one, single crochet?

@Monika B: It is a double crochet, then a single crochet, then a double crochet, then a singe crochet - at the end of the row you do three chains and turn. It's that simple.

My bad - it is a double crochet, single crochet, double crochet, single crochet, etc. until you reach the end of the row and then you chain three and turn with a double crochet into the double crochet slot and continue.

I would love to know how many rows of each color you did for the base rows and also the colors you weaved through. It looks like you mixed them up and used more than 4 colors. I LOVE how this looks and would love to recreate it. Would you mind posting a picture of it all laid out so we can see the whole thing? That would be awesome.

I upload two more pictures for you. Rows depends on how big you want it and you can use any number of colors you want. I think I had six colors. The two missing are black and a light gray.

Love this blanket! Can you tell me how many stitches you casted on to start? I think I get the idea of dc then sc to weave into. I just don't know how to start. Thank you. Laureen

That depends on how big you want the blanket. You need to make sure you have an odd number of openings. That is because when you weave the yarn through you tie 6 yarns together to hold them in place. I've chained the first row and then completed a second row to find out it was even so had to start over before. Ha...

It is simply a double crochet followed by a single crochet, then a double crochet, etc to create the openings. When done you take three yarns and weave it through the openings with each row done in an opposite opening.
