I love Cowichan sweaters but it's difficult to find toddler size patterns. Because there are so few stitches to work with (20 R side) finding a grid design is challenging. Having no pattern or grid design I decided to just wing it. I found a fish that was 16 stitches and started from there. I knit from the bottom up for the body and added the sleeves. I decided on a zipper closure although I had never done one before. To keep the inside tidy I used the threading method. This resulted in a double weight garment for extra warmth - bonus! Overall I was quite pleased with my little experiment. I know what I would change on my next project - bigger collar, different sleeves for sure. I love how quickly this little sweater knits up. ...more to come.
